High speed ferry powered by Cummins QSK95 engines Tanzania’s latest fast ferry joins a fleet of vessels numerically named after the country’s majestic, dormant volcano. Built for Azam Marine, Kilimanjaro VIII is a 53m aluminum, passenger fast ferry cruising between Dar es Salaam and the historic spice island of Zanzibar.

With a top speed of 37 knots at 8,000 horsepower, the vessel transits 620 passengers to explore sparkling beaches and culture. The industry’s new flagship is constructed with marine grade aluminum and built to the highest quality for exceptional performance, assuring guests a smooth ride in all weather conditions.

Operated by 10 crew, the modernistic design emphasizes passenger comfort and luxury in all classes with food and beverage service during the voyage. The Royal Class area is a similar standard to an Emirates Airlines First Class cabin with entertainment monitors and 16 full lay-flat seats. Additionally, 56 VIP seats and 200 economy seats on main deck seat passengers in comfort.

Naval architects INCAT Crowther designed Kilimanjaro VIII for streamlined and efficient boarding featuring Azam Marine’s signature parallel boarding system, with five ramps per side loading passengers and cargo in segregated flows. This proven system increases operational efficiency and safety by ensuring passenger classes and luggage trolleys remain separated during boarding.

This fast catamaran passenger ferry is the eleventh vessel designed by Incat-Crowther for Tanzania-based Azam Marine and is the eighth large ferry delivery by Richardson Devine Marine (RDM). With an edginess to her lines and a long, sleek profile, Kilimanjaro VIII’s exterior design represents a modern progression of the fleet’s style. Combined with the introduction of a reverse-bow hull configuration, the vessel offers passengers a state-of-the-art ride.
