The Sustainable Option

Sustainability

Cummins Planet 2050 next generation environmental sustainability strategy is designed to enable Cummins to achieve its mission to make peoples lives better by powering a more prosperous world. As part of Planet 2050, one of the goals is to create a circular lifecycle plan for every product. The remanufacturing of Cummins engines and parts expands the life of the product while contributing to a circular economy. Cummins remanufactured engines use up to 85% less energy compared to the production of a new engine, this reduces unnecessary waste and lowers cost of ownership by extending the life of the engine.

A Dedicated Facility in Europe

European Master Rebuild Centre

European Master Rebuild Centre

State-of-the-art facility that rebuilds and remanufactures Cummins high horsepower engines.

This centre is part of a global network of dedicated high-horsepower engine remanufacture and rebuild sites, typically focusing on Cummins engines 19 litres and above.

Engines are remanufactured to meet the exactly the same standards as a brand new engine using the latest manufacturing processes and tools.

This site features numerous sustainable solutions, including a high-tech microbiological wash bay reusing 100% of water, the installation of solar panels, allowing Cummins to use its own green energy, and charging points for electric vehicles. In addition, it is equipped with innovative systems such as two 15-tonne overhead cranes, jib cranes.

The location has two disassembly bays, four high horsepower and three mid-range/heavy-duty assembly bays, and a MILLIPORE testing stand.

THE 6-STEP PROCESS

The remanufacture process – including complete disassembly, cleaning, inspection, the replacement of major components, design improvements, and testing – is dedicated to extending the life of the original engine. In many cases, these steps can also enhance the engine’s fuel efficiency and performance, making the product life cycle more sustainable.

1) Teardown 2) Cleaning 3) Inspection 4) Components 5) Reassembly 6) Testing
The engine is completely dismantled down to the cylinder block All the reusable parts and meticulously clean High-quality inspection of all parts from the engines to confirm that the part can be reused Measuring each components tolerances, to ensure all the parts meet Cummins 'as-new' specifications Reassemble of engine The engine is tested to make sure it meets Cummins quality and performance standards
