Where: Kyushu, Japan

What: An initial 3 units of Cummins G-Drive QSK50-G4 was installed by Meiden as standby power for their customer, Kyushu Electric Power Company. Another 10 units will be delivered for Meidensha's customers in the next phase.

Purpose: To provide a robust standby power system in the event of a power shortage.

Primary choice factors: Cummins' long-standing reputations for their durable, cost-effective and fuel-efficient G-Drive engines that are easily integrated with existing systems.

A new partnership was forged between Cummins Japan Limited and Meidensha Corporation, that allowed Cummins Japan Limited to expand their market reach to an operation sector that was previously lacking.

Tokyo-based Meidensha manufactures and provides power solutions for sectors in infrastructure, business systems, industrial systems, engineering systems and real estate developments. The corporation has global offices in US, Europe and Asia.

Meiden approached Cummins Power Generation to supply reliable diesel generator engines, as a preemptive measure against a power shortage. Through the Cummins team's collective support, the client was able to meet their budget and planned schedule for this project.

A first order of three units of QSK50-G4 was installed as standby power for their customer, Kyushu Electric Power Company. An additional 1 O G-Drive units will be delivered in the next phase for various customers.

Cummins' G-Drive Diesel Engines are low-emission solutions and are configured as CoolPac systems, with cooling systems and air-cleaner solutions built in. They provide complete, pre-integrated power packages that speed OEMs' introduction of new products, allowing proven and price-efficient power solutions in optimal time.

“Cummins has a long-standing reputation in the power generation business. It was crucial that the backup power systems were durable, cost-effective and fuel-efficient, and the advantage Cummins' G-Drive engines have is that they are also easily integrated with existing systems.”

The Cummins G-Drive QSK50-G4 Diesel Engine:

  • Uses state-of-the-art Quantum technology to operate with a common set of application and diagnostic software tools.
  • Meets the strict US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and European Union (EU) emissions regulations, and is one of the cleanest engines in its class.
  • Features an altered combustion chamber geometry to enhance compression rations and fuel and air mixing. Through the lowering of piston temperatures and cylinder pressures, mechanical stress is considerably reduced.
  • Supplies maximum power density and constant uptime, from a compact package.
