Project background The upgrade was necessary as the legacy DMC300 reached end-of-life due to obsolete hardware components and software. Additionally, the customer aimed to add more generators and required changes in the control sequence to enable integration with a PV renewable system. Challenges The legacy DMC300 was equipped with outdated PLCs, having obsolete software and hardware modules, leading to several challenges:

Expanding Cummins footprint at Maules Creek Whitehaven Coal, noted for producing high quality thermal and metallurgical coal, has four operating mines in the Gunnedah Basin which achieved run-of-mine (ROM) production of 18.2 Mt in 2023. More than 100 high horsepower Cummins engines are involved in its three open-cut operations, including the Maules Creek operation which is repowering five Hitachi EH3500 haul trucks with 2000 hp Cummins QSK50 MCRS engines.

About MDS: MDS Associates is not a regular Cummins customer and has a buying pattern of once or twice a year.
