S/Y Vagante
Wherever the wind blows, Vagante wanders backed by Cummins
While wandering means moving without planning, we’re certain a compass, navigational radar, and GPS guide S/Y Vagante to the most beautiful, remote, pristine places on the planet. After all, secluded islands, picturesque beaches, quaint coastal villages, and exciting passages are best explored by boat.
Vagante is an incredible boat in which to discover the world, a sailing ketch yacht just under 100-feet.
Built in Turkey by Huzur Yat and delivered in 2019, she was designed by Turkey’s renowned naval architect, Osman “Tanju” Kalaycıoğlu of Taka Yachts.
Vagante, which translates as “rambler” or “wanderer”, was designed for a young couple and their family, passionate about the sea.
Inspired with classic Turkish DNA with a dark grey hull, Tanju offers perspective on Vagante’s design philosophy.
“She is styled after the Turkish gulets, but with much finer lines and a modern underbody with a bulb keel and spade rudder,” said Tanju. “Her structure is designed well in excess of RINA rules with medium displacement due to an efficient arrangement of frames and bulkheads. Her electrical and piping systems are carefully designed and executed for long life with minimum maintenance.”
With a clean, warm and bright interior designed by Stephen Huish, Vagante envelops its guests in beautiful American walnut, bleached oak and polished stainless-steel details. Constructed with epoxy laminated Acajou mahogany and laid teak decks, she has a strong wooden hull and superstructure.
Vagante offers a choice of comfortable, outdoor lounging options. The main deck cockpit is lined with plush sofas, offering shade to unwind and dine alfresco. Two large sunbeds cover either side of the stern with a raised loveseat and tables on the foredeck for the best views. The bow is clear for observation, exercise, and additional sunbathing.
Above deck, the pilothouse contains seating for alfresco dining and lounging. Three double ensuite cabins and a master suite with a private saloon accommodate up to eight guests with additional quarters below deck for three crew, near the engine room.
Range and performance
While not under sail, Vagante is powered by a single diesel Cummins QSB 6.7 MCD 305hp engine for a top speed of 10 knots, cruising at 7 knots.
“The QSB is a great engine,” said Tanju. “I have used it from 300 hp to 480 hp a hp, sail and power. Another advantage is relatively competitive pricing. Another of my favorite Cummins is QSL 9 because of the conservative rating. I have used again in different applications from 330 hp to 450 hp.
