As president of the Engine Business (EBU), one of Cummins’ five business segments, Brett Merritt pushes the boundaries of customer-focused innovation to position Cummins as the leading powertrain supplier of choice in the transition to a net zero future. In 2022, the engine business generated over $11 billion in revenue and delivered 1.3 million engines to customers worldwide.

Over the course of his career, Brett has championed innovation, quality and the customer viewpoint. He is an authentic leader with a passion for teamwork, collaboration and strategic execution.

The entirety of his career has been in the automotive and commercial vehicle industry, starting in the automotive emissions space with Arvin and later ArvinMeritor. He then worked in various manufacturing, sales and general management roles with Valspar and Columbus Components Group. He joined Cummins in 2008 as On-Highway Sales Director for Cummins Emissions Solutions. He then moved to the EBU, leading the Global Medium Duty On-Highway Business prior to becoming General Manager for the entire On-Highway Business. In 2018 he was appointed a Vice President for the company and in 2023, his role was expanded to oversee all strategic customer relations across Cummins – a testament to his deep understanding of customer needs as the industry works to decarbonize.

Brett holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and liberal arts management from Indiana University, and a master’s in business administration from Harvard Business School. He is the United Way leader for Cummins in Southern Indiana and sponsors Cummins’ Japanese Affinity Group. A native Hoosier, Brett lives in Columbus, Indiana, with wife Becky, and their three children: John, Rachel and Grace. He’s active in the community, including with his parish, St. Bartholomew, and local youth hockey organizations. He enjoys reading, travel, golf and Indiana University basketball.
