Cummins RMEP Team is ready for fuel=agnostic engines

Plant readies for production of fuel agnostic engine to cut carbon

Cummins’ Rocky Mount Engine Plant (RMEP) in North Carolina is continuing its long history of innovation in internal combustion engine technology and manufacturing by preparing to build the company’s industry-first fuel-agnostic engines. In 2022, Cummins unveiled this powertrain solution, which can be optimized for different low-carbon fuel types using a high degree of parts commonality to help reduce carbon emissions. The engine aligns with Destination Zero, the company’s strategy to reduce carbon and other emissions.

President Joe Biden visits a Cummins plant in Fridley, MN

Cummins expands U.S. production of low- and no-carbon technologies

U.S. President Joe Biden was the first of a number of distinguished guests to visit Cummins’ Fridley, Minn., facility in 2023, as electrolyzer production started at the plant. Expanding the supply of green hydrogen, which is produced using electrolyzers to separate hydrogen from water, is considered essential for hard-to-decarbonize applications such as long haul trucking. The expansion is Cummins’ first production site for electrolyzers in the U.S. and one of several expansions implemented by Accelera by Cummins over the past year.
