Manufacturing

Dark. Dirty. Dangerous. Declining. Those are the words that likely pop into the heads of people when they think of "manufacturing." However, modern manufacturing actually means something completely different. It means thriving business, technological innovation, diversified products and quality jobs. In the United States, there's a manufacturing resurgence taking place and Indiana is helping lead the way.

This week, Cummins was covered by both the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) and Fortune Magazine for its contributions to manufacturing, technology, sustainability, and industry in Indiana.

The BBC article sheds light on Cummins’ impact on U.S. manufacturing as a whole with the news piece, US manufacturing: how did Indiana power a revival? The article explores the ways in which Indiana has managed to thrive in a generally declining industry, with a spotlight on Cummins and the Columbus Midrange Engine Plant (CMEP). CMEP, which supplies engines to Chrysler and Freightliner, is just one example of Cummins’ commitment to technologically advancing manufacturing while retaining focus on the most important aspect of the business: the people who work there.

Fortune covered Cummins with the video, How Cummins stays relevant in an eco-friendly world, in which reporter Clay Risen discusses Cummins’ many successes: how the company turned emissions regulations into an opportunity, technology leadership and the Company’s unique approach to global growth and markets. This video is a preview of a print and online feature about Cummins that will be published next Monday, June 8. The feature was written by Risen, who visited Columbus in late 2014 to tour Cummins facilities and interview COO Rich Freeland and CTO John Wall.
