Cummins Is Perfecting the Science of Silence
By Cummins Inc., Global Power Technology Leader

As the old saying goes, good fences make good neighbors.
Well, so do quiet generators, and although we’re certain you make every effort to be the good neighbor, you could be overlooking a thing or two.
We’re referring to that old portable backup generator you bring out every time the power fails. It’s bad enough these machines crank out only enough power to run the fridge and TV at the same time, but the near-constant drone of their inefficient motors might really get on someone’s nerves.
The facility is located adjacent to the Cummins Power Generation factory in Minnesota for the convenient on-site testing and adjusting. In most ways, this facility functions much like a modern recording studio, with sound-absorbing materials covering the walls to eliminate any outside interference. There are even strategically placed, highly sensitive microphones surrounding the generator being tested to ensure precision recording by our expert sound engineers. Prince would be so proud.
Just for good measure, we’ve engineered a unique sound absorbing housing for our RS Series standby home generators. The curved design, made with advanced polymer materials, redirects most of the vibration into the base, then muffles the rest to the point it’s nearly inaudible, assuring that your neighbors will stay happy.
