Cummins Recognized for Veterans Services

As a global company that serves customers in approximately 190 countries, Cummins is dedicated to hiring employees with diverse backgrounds and skill sets. Last month, as the company celebrated Veterans Day at various locations across the United States, Cummins was named a 2016 Military Friendly Company.

The Military Friendly Company Award recognizes companies like Cummins that invest time, money and personnel to build military recruiting and retention programs, as well as policies that accommodate Guard and Reservists who continue to serve.

During a ceremony in Columbus, Indiana, Cummins Chairman and CEO Tom Linebarger emphasized the tremendous value that veterans bring to the company. Linebarger also recognized the progress that has been made throughout the years by the company to celebrate the importance of their veterans.

“Cummins’ core values naturally match many military philosophical values. The military may use different labels to describe them, but they all essentially revolve around the principles of integrity, innovation, dedication to excellence and community,” Linebarger said. “The company has made considerable progress to increase veteran representation through active recruiting and retention programs. However, I believe we can do much more to make Cummins an even more attractive and supportive place for veterans to work.”

Since 1919, Cummins has had a rich history with the military. Three
of its six CEOs have been military veterans. Shelly Stewart, Executive Director of Global Security, Global Facilities, Aviation & Hospitality, is a veteran of the United States Army and shared her thoughts on the skills that veterans bring to Cummins.

“All Veterans have different stories and all are meaningful,” commented Stewart. “What we have learned is invaluable- it has shaped our personal and professional lives. It is part of who we are.”

Today, Cummins supports a variety of veteran-related causes throughout the year. Most recently, members of Cummins’ Veterans and Supporters Affinity Group helped organize a “Stand-Down” for Bartholomew and surrounding counties in Indiana. At the event, employees focused on helping homeless and struggling Veterans get back on their feet.
