Celebrating Women's History Month - Valuing an Inclusive Work Environment

By Whitney Wilber, Global Employer Brand Marketing Communication Specialist

Women’s History Month is a time for recognizing the central role of women in US history, for Cummins, it is also about highlighting the significance of diversity & inclusion. In honor of Women’s History Month, we’ve invited employees to share their personal stories, helping others to understand what this month represents, as well as the importance of an inclusive workplace year round.

Employee Highlight: Yisset Penaloza, Senior Product Engineer

Years at Cummins: 4

“Women’s History Month reminds me of the strong women who came before me who weren’t afraid to fight and change the world. During this time, I feel the most thankful for all the rights and privileges I can enjoy today as a woman. Celebrating the success of women from the past, inspires me to keep working towards my goals.”

Understanding the value of diversity inside Cummins…

“The opportunity to work with people from diverse cultures, ages, and professional backgrounds has taught me that problem solving should not be limited to only one perspective. The best solution of a problem is achieved and executed when all perspectives have been considered. The work environment at Cummins is greatly enriched thanks to diversity. I have come to understand that fostering diversity is a life-long commitment and that maintaining diversity inside of Cummins ensures that we can approach solutions with a full spectrum of perspectives.”

Feeling pride working within an inclusive environment

“The Every Employee Every Community (EEEC) program at Cummins makes me particularly proud because of the positive impact that employees can make in local communities. I have personally participated in multiple initiatives that benefit the community in different areas such as environmental, educational, humanitarian, and personal growth. These initiatives have included mentoring young kids for career planning, planting trees in abandoned areas, donating time and goods for charity organizations, among many other activities. I am very proud to be part of a company that strives to give back to the community.”

Living your values at Cummins…

“The work atmosphere at Cummins makes it easy for me to live my values. In every challenge at work, I feel free to exercise my values of integrity, responsibility, and honesty without fear of being judged. While working at Cummins, I have learned not to be afraid to speak up. This has positively contributed to my confidence and professional growth. Additionally, this has encouraged me to help others to express themselves freely.”
