Cummins Gets High Marks From Two Key Sustainability Indexes

By Blair Claflin, Director of Sustainability Communications

Cummins received high marks from two key sustainability indexes recently – the 2016 Newsweek Green Rankings and FTSE4Good.

The company finished 85th in Newsweek’s review of the 500 largest publicly traded companies in the United States and 14th in the industrial sector. Newsweek’s rankings, released last month, are done in partnership with Corporate Knights and HIP Investor.

Cummins finished 105th in the magazine’s 2015 U.S. survey. Newsweek bases its rankings on publicly available data on energy productivity, greenhouse gas productivity, waste and water productivity as well as other sustainability based criteria.

The FTSE4Good Index is designed to measure the performance of companies internationally demonstrating strong environmental, social and governance practices. It is sponsored by the FTSE and Russell indexes, which are committed to giving clients a precise view of the market relevant to their investment strategies.

The FTSE4Good Index rates companies on a number of environmental, social and governance factors ranging from a company’s efforts to reduce climate change to health and safety, and corporate governance and risk management.

The group’s decision to keep Cummins on its FTSE4Good Index was based on FTSE Russell’s June 2016 review of publicly available data from the company such as Cummins’ Sustainability Progress Report.

The company received an overall rating of 3.7 on a 5 point scale.

Cummins is committed to sustainability as part of its Mission demanding “everything we do leads to a cleaner, healthier, safer environment,” and the company’s Corporate Responsibility Value to “serve and improve the communities in which we live.”
