Cummins Car & General, the Kenyan joint venture between Cummins and its established distributor in the country, has demonstrated 500 kVA generator sets powered by QSX15G8 engines to selected consultants, contractors and customers. The event in Nairobi drew an attendance of more than 90, including representatives from electrical, mechanical and plumbing consultants, contractors, customers from defence forces, banks, parastatal representatives, oil industry players, dealers and staff.
The 500 kVA generator sets, which are manufactured in China, feature a number of advantages including reduced noise levels, efficient fuel consumption, automatic synchronizing, and remote monitoring which allows customers to keep an eye on the performance of the generator from a different location.
This was a first-time event, designed to keep customers informed of new product developments and changes within Cummins, including improved specifications, and reinforcing the Cummins reputation for quality and availability. “Events like this help us to grow market share when we meet new and existing customers on a one on one basis,” commented Surajit Choudhury, Cummins C&G’s General Manager.
Three major topics covered during the event were the East Africa Joint Venture, the history of Cummins, and production at the plant in China. The presentations were by Cummins C&G General Manager Surajit Choudhury, Regional Sales Director B.S. Balaji, and Regional Sales Leader Usama Yousaf respectively.
Car & General is the full-line distributor business for Cummins in 11 countries: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Seychelles, South Sudan, Rwanda, Somalia, Eritrea and Burundi.
