These power generators will primarily be installed in data centers to help our communities in China stay connected through the re-opening of the economy.

In times like this where many supply chains are interrupted due to the on-going pandemic, supply chain agility becomes an invaluable asset for many businesses. A global and diverse manufacturing network is one of the key elements of building an agile supply chain. Cummins manufactures engines and generator sets in facilities across five continents. This network allows Cummins to be flexible and satisfy customers’ needs, even when the most unexpected happens.keeping communities connected

“This was an unprecedented challenge and is a testament to our whole organization, that we have been able to flex our supply chain to meet and exceed the needs of our customers in China,” said Richard Elenor, Operations Leader, Asia and Africa, Cummins Inc.

Elenor is not alone recognizing the efforts of supply chain professionals at Cummins. Most recently, Cummins’ supply chain operations was ranked fourth in Gartner’s Top-Ranked Industrial Supply Chains 2019 list

The benefits of Cummins’ agile supply chain extend beyond its direct customers. In this case, communities in China will benefit from the connectivity enabled by these data centers, and Cummins is proud to be a part of building a connected world. Connectivity will empower these communities in many ways.

Ability to work from home and stay productive

Many were required to stay at home to curb the spread of COVID-19. While the Chinese economy continues to re-open, many continue to work from home, attending virtual meetings and exchanging emails. Many of these activities require connectivity, enabled by data centers.

Access to online education to ensure continued learning

Educational institutions will continue to focus on virtual learning for the near term to keep students and teachers safe. A key enabler for this to be effective is connectivity and access to learning portals, enabled by data centers.

Staying in touch with family and friends virtually

With limited travel many have turned to virtual coffee chats, happy hours and gatherings to spend time with their friends and family; all thanks to the connectivity enabled by data centers.

The next few months will be busy for the supply chain team at Cummins, as these engines get built and transported through air, rail, road and sea to China. Meanwhile in China, many customers are happy to see their increased demand being fulfilled by Cummins, thanks to its agile supply chain rapidly ramping up the production.

Beyond China, many communities around the world are increasingly reliant on digital infrastructure that is backed-up by Cummins power.
