Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) proudly marks the sixth anniversary of International Data Center Day with continued support for this globally recognized and celebrated event. Powered by the 7x24 Exchange, International Data Center Day aims to generate awareness and inspire the next generation of talent to pursue a career within this growing industry.

Today’s digital, interconnected world has led to more data being shared online in the last two years than in all of previous human history. As the number of smart devices in use and the volume of data generated continues to swell, so too does the data center industry which is projected to have an annual average job growth of 12 percent through 2024

International Data Center Day aims to bridge the gap between these mounting employment opportunities and the next generation of talent by highlighting opportunities and educating youth and professionals about career tracks, educational requirements, and advancement in the data center industry.

After successfully supporting last year’s event, Cummins has expanded its support in 2024 by connecting on a local level with over 100 students at three different community schools located near Cummins manufacturing sites. In the U.S., events were held at both Fridley High School and the Northeast Metro 916 Career and Tech program, while in the United Kingdom, an event was hosted at Guilsborough Academy.

Cummins employees taught the students the basic functions and purposes of data centers, outlining how they impact their day-to-day lives via technology like social media and video games. The important role Cummins plays in supporting data centers around the world with backup power solutions was also spotlighted. The events provided students with industry awareness and the valuable information needed to pursue a career within the industry.

The events align with Cummins’ continued focus on the value of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education through community engagement events while sharing valuable information on advancements within the data center ecosystem.

“This year’s support for International Data Center Day through community engagement is something we are incredibly proud of. Our continued commitment to this global event will ensure both the data center industry and Cummins continue to thrive by encouraging the next generation of talent to enter this exciting industry.” said Tom Shepherd, Executive Director, Data Centers at Cummins.
