The Cummins Tactical Energy Storage Unit will be front and center at the 2019 AUSA annual meeting and expo

Washington, D.C.

Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) will display the will debut the Tactical Energy Storage Unit specifically designed for military applications. The Tactical Energy Storage Unit uses Cummins latest technologies to further enhance the performance of the Cummins Advanced Medium Mobile Power Sources (AMMPS) generators and offer greater reliability across every mission.

The new Tactical Energy Storage Unit offers a total integrated power system for any critical defense operation, whilst delivering greater system fuel efficiency, increased microgrid resilience, greater reliability and a reduction in the maintenance costs of its partner generators.

"Our aim was to meet the military’s need for energy storage solutions. Driven by our commitment innovation and to Defense, we developed the new Tactical Energy Storage System (TESS), for energy storage capability," said Regina Barringer, Cummins Global General Manager of Rail and Defense. "We leveraged our significant experience and understanding of the military’s needs in power generation to develop a system that not only offers energy storage capability but also offers improvements in reliability and fuel economy."

The ACE model will also be displayed at AUSA 2019. The AUSA project is an opposed-piston diesel engine, working on a two-stroke combustion cycle eliminating the need for a valvetrain. ACE is projected to deliver a 21 percent reduction in thermal rejection. This is a 50 percent increase in power density and a 13 percent increase in fuel efficiency over engines currently in use.

The V903 was first used in the Bradley Fighting Vehicle in 1981 to upgrade the power level of the commercial truck engine from 350 horsepower to 500 horsepower. In 2013, the V903 was re-engineered to produce 675 horsepower for the U.S. Army’s Paladin M109A7 howitzer. Currently, the V903 is being fitted in the upgraded Bradley ECP 2 and Armoured Multi-Purpose Vehicles (AMPV), replacing the M113 armoured personnel carrier.

"We have a long-standing history of providing safe and reliable products and solutions to support our military," added Barringer. "Cummins is proud to serve our military by providing innovative power technologies and solutions."
