Where: Tabouk, Saudi Arabia
What: Five 2000 kVA QSK60-G4 models with LSA51.2M60, plus sound proofing, synchronizing and totalizing panel
Purpose: 10 MVA of prime power
Three Palms Trees, a general contractor in Saudi Arabia, was looking for generator sets to supply prime power for a project that was underway at the King Faisal Airbase in Tabouk, Saudi Arabia.
Three Palms Trees contacted PIMco, an official OEM for Cummins G-Drive which employs 70 staff at its headquarters in Lebanon. PIMco supplies generator sets powered by Cummins G-Drive engines to its customers in the region. Three Palms Trees asked PIMco for a quotation, and found that the products and guarantees it could offer were just right for its requirements.
The power demand for the airbase project was for 10 MVA of prime power, and Three Palms Trees requested that the generator sets be supplied complete with canopies and synchronizing panel. The generator sets were to be used both as backup for one of the power plants at the air base and to give extra power as needed. They would have to operate in the challenging climate conditions of the Saudi Arabian desert.
At first, Three Palms Trees was weighing the options of Cummins or Caterpillar. PIMco was able to make the case for Cummins after highlighting the advantages of the engines in terms of durability and reliability of service – offsetting initial and running costs. PIMco was awarded a contract to supply generator sets with Cummins G-Drive engines, and other equipment. PIMco also sent a team of specialists to supervise and monitor installation as well as to provide training to the operation and maintenance team.
The five G-Drive engines in the PIMco supplied generator sets were 2000 kVA QSK60-G4 models with LSA51.2M60 and PIMco sound proofing, synchronizing and totalizing panel. The work went smoothly. PIMco assembled the generator sets at its factory in Ghaziyeh and shipped them to Saudi Arabia on time. To date, the generator sets have operated for more than 2,000 hours and PIMco has a fully satisfied customer.
The Cummins G-Drive engines are performing well – as was expected, since they ar e well suited to the challenging climate conditions found in areas such as the deserts of Saudi Arabia.
