Mina is classically chic, capable and comfortable

Crews with no choice but to head out to sea in rough weather conditions rely on trawlers' inherently robust, stout design based on the DNA of highly capable fishing boats.

Characterized by a bow with high guard rails to protect the owner and crew on deck, trawlers are built with long-range cruising ability at an average speed under 10 knots.

The deck’s clutter-free design enables seawater pouring over the bow from plowing heavy seas to drain quickly. Ensuring safety in all conditions, the superstructure’s low profile and forward raking windows are complemented by an equally sturdy cockpit with judiciously positioned overhead rub rails.

Turkey’s leading naval architect, O.Tanju Kalaycıoğlu, pioneered trawler design. His latest creation, Mina, is an attractive 48-foot live-aboard cruising trawler yacht. Its interior was carefully designed in collaboration with the owner, who plans to live and work remotely aboard, his family securely in tow.

Defined by light, welcoming colors, Mina’s styling and details are user-friendly. A thick, epoxy-laminated Acajou hull meets strong, laminated frames; the deck, bulkheads, and superstructure are also constructed with multi-layer plywood glued with epoxy. Mina’s 12mm laid teak decks and exterior are incredibly tough and impenetrable, sheathed with e-glass cloth and epoxy.

Mina’s interior philosophy is tastefully utilitarian. Zeki Koen developed its simple, modern interior for the hard-working businessperson, making the interior arrangements as welcoming as a land office, with useful detailing by Has+Koen Architects in every space and corner. In the wheelhouse, high seating is multifunctional, allowing guests to enjoy the sea or the captain to enjoy an office, with complete storage underneath and an emergency pilot berth.

Accommodations include a huge master, a VIP, and two guest cabins forward of the engine room. Dual ensuite crew cabins are arranged aft. Lavishly outfitted for a professional chef, the galley is on the main deck midships. The upper open deck is protected at its half-length by a substantial hardtop with varnished Iroko veneer overhead. A huge exterior area has a small second galley and barbecue.

For dependability, with service and parts guaranteed worldwide, Mina is powered by twin Cummins QSL9 engines and twin Cummins Onan 27kW generator units in acoustic enclosures with double-elastic mounts to reduce structure-born noise and vibration. Designed with all-around accessibility for easy maintenance, Centa flexible coupling dampens engine vibrations.

"I specified Mina with one of my favorite Cummins engines, the QSL9, because of the conservative rating,” Tanju said. "I have used it in different applications from 330 hp to 450 hp, sail and power.”
