Cummins’ Fridley Plant hosts blood drives to help save lives
Employees exceed giving level for 2023 and look to raise the bar even further in 2024
Cummins manufacturing facility employees in Fridley, Minnesota (Minn.) not only work together to produce the best power generation equipment for their customers and communities, they work together to give back. During 2023, Fridley employees organized three blood drives, raising 148 units of blood and clocking in 336 hours of community volunteer time. Looking to do more, they already have their first 2024 blood drive set for January.
“I am so proud of our work with the American Red Cross this year,” says Asit Desai, Fridley Plant Manager at Cummins. “Our employees made a commitment early in the year and went beyond expectations. Not only was it great to get back to the process of donating blood following COVID for those in need, the drives were a wonderful opportunity for our employees to come together for such a worthy cause.”
The American Red Cross provides about 40% of our nation’s blood and blood components, all from volunteer donors. As recently as September, the American Red Cross declared a national blood shortage, citing low blood supply levels that dropped nearly 25% since early August. “We appreciate all the efforts made by Cummins employees for coordinating three wonderful blood drives this year,” says Alex Zidarevich, Account Manager, Donor Recruitment at the American Red Cross. “The blood donated will go a long way in terms of helping those in need, and we would not have done it without the hard work and generosity of Cummins donors. We appreciate the partnership with Cummins and great support as we work to touch lives.”
Engagement is the underpinning of Cummins’ responsibility to its communities. Employees around the globe use their skills to make their communities better places to live and work. Through Cummins’ Every Employee Every Community (EEEC) program, employees are enabled to use at least four work hours to engage in their communities, investing thousands of employee hours in community improvement projects around the world.
“When we started the process of planning for our blood drives earlier in the year, we weren’t sure what to expect,” says Matt Izzard, Operations Manager at Fridley. “Employees stepped up to commit to a great cause consistently throughout 2023. We had employees who had donated many times previously and had 54 employees donate for the first time ever, which is just fantastic. The partnership with the American Red Cross was seamless. The result of the blood drives this year is not only a success for the Cummins Fridley Plant but also for the American Red Cross. We have already signed up for our first blood drive in 2024 and hope this community initiative will continue for many years to come.”
