In November, Cummins Inc. proudly accepted the 2024 “Top Companies for Women to Work in Transportation” award presented by the Women in Trucking (WIT) Association and was distinguished as an “Elite 30” company – an honor bestowed on top companies that generate the highest number of industry-wide votes.

WIT is “a non-profit organization with the mission to encourage the employment of women in the trucking industry, promote their accomplishments, and minimize obstacles faced by women in the industry”.

Cummins is truly honored by this recognition and remains committed to fostering the growth and advancement of women within the company and the broader transportation industry. With Jennifer Rumsey serving as President and CEO since August 2022, we continue to lead by example, championing diversity and inclusion at all levels of our organization.

In addition to the award, Cummins also had the opportunity to engage with attendees, creating a wall where they could share their career journeys, offer advice to other women, and express what excites them about the future of the industry. These inspiring notes focused on the following key themes:

  1. Empowerment and self-worth: Emphasizing the importance of believing in oneself, advocating for oneself, and recognizing one's worth and potential.
  2. Resilience and perseverance: Encouraging persistence, not giving up, and pushing through challenges and fears.
  3. Authenticity and confidence: Highlighting the value of being true to oneself, showing up authentically, and having confidence in one's abilities.
  4. Inclusivity and support: Promoting the inclusion of diverse voices, supporting each other, and creating space for others.
  5. Continuous learning and growth: Stressing the importance of continuous learning, getting out of comfort zones, and striving for personal and professional growth.
  6. Leadership and advocacy: Encouraging women to take on leadership roles, advocate for themselves and others, and break barriers in male-dominated fields.
  7. Positive impact and change: Motivating individuals to make a positive impact, spark change, and leave a legacy.
  8. Excitement for the future of transportation: Diverse energy sources, technological advancements and increased female representation in the industry overall.

In a panel discussion on “The Blueprint for Career Advancement: From Shop Technician to Leadership,” Cummins employees highlighted the importance of confidence, resilience and support. Moderated by Brian Ondre, President CSSNA On-Highway, the panelists – Dianna S., Purchasing Associate; Gail R., General Manager; and Brandi J., Service Advisor – shared their personal work experiences through all levels of their respective organizations and offered insights on how women can navigate career advancement in a male-dominated industry.

When asked what advice she had for other women in the industry, Brandi shared, “Some days may feel overwhelming, and in those moments, remember why you started. Every setback is a chance to grow stronger, more confident and skilled. But above all, have compassion for yourself. Lean on your support network, celebrate small wins, and trust yourself.”
