The digital landscape is rapidly evolving, with the number of active internet users rising from 4.58 billion people in 2020 to 5.56 billion people in 2025. This growth drives an exponential increase in digital data, underscoring the expanding importance of data centers worldwide.  From emails and social media posts to video streaming, online shopping, AI-driven services and beyond, the volume of data generated continues to soar.

This year, as part of 7x24’s IDCD, Cummins hosted an engaging educational event for 60+ students from Fridley High School and the Northeast Metro 916 Career and Tech program at one of our leading power generation facilities in Fridley, Minnesota. The day provided students with the unique opportunity to get up close to the one of its kind Acoustical Test Center (ATC) and experience a hands-on demonstration of how this leading facility works.

Following this, Industry professionals shared career guidance, encouraging students to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.  As the digital age progresses, firsthand exposure, like this tour, is critical.  They foster curiosity and technical learning among young minds while providing insights into exciting real-world opportunities in engineering and sustainability.

Cummins took its involvement a step further by hosting a panel discussion featuring experts from various sectors of the data center industry, with the goal to drive industry-wide collaboration and progress. The discussion focused on the future of AI and data centers. The event provided an opportunity to discuss key challenges and innovations shaping the future of data centers, including the growth of AI, market trends, AI growth impact of data center design, cooling and its impact on back up power generation.

During the event, they also provided an exciting announcement about the launch of the QSK60-G29, designed specifically for data centers.

Cummins extends its gratitude to all students, panelists, and participants for contributing to the success of this year’s IDCD event. As the digital infrastructure landscape evolves, Cummins remains committed to empowering the next generation of engineers and innovators who will shape the future of data centers.
