From Placement to Professional: Jacob’s Journey at Cummins Turbo Technologies

For Jacob, a Graduate Engineer at Cummins Turbo Technologies, the journey from student to full-time engineer has been one of growth, collaboration, and purpose.

After completing a one-year placement with Cummins, Jacob returned just two months ago as a graduate engineer—and he’s already making an impact.

“What I enjoy most is the collaboration,” Jacob shares. “I get to work across different areas—from the materials lab to LabOps—and gain hands-on experience with parts and testing. It’s a great way to learn.”

A typical day for Jacob involves project meetings, supporting lab work alongside technicians, and analysing data from tests. It’s a dynamic environment that keeps him engaged and constantly learning.

But it’s not just the technical work that stands out.

“The work environment here is friendly, approachable, and caring. I’ve never come across someone who wasn’t willing to help.”

Jacob sees Cummins’ core values reflected in his daily work—whether it’s teamwork across departments, supporting new starters, or collaborating with global teams that bring diverse perspectives to problem-solving.

When asked what initially attracted him to Cummins, Jacob points to the hybrid working model, the variety of roles available, and the company’s culture.

“The flexibility is great for my young family. And the exposure to high-level engineering problems really appealed to me.”

Jacob says Cummins has supported his career growth and development.

“My managers have always listened and supported me. I’ve had opportunities to lead small projects and receive one-on-one mentoring. The professional development tools have also been really valuable.”

Looking ahead, Jacob is focused on becoming a well-rounded engineer, leading projects and teams. His experience at Cummins fueled that ambition.

“It’s given me the confidence to grow and push myself in ways I might not have before.”

His advice to others considering a career at Cummins?

“Do your research—Cummins operates in more areas than you might expect. Attend events, meet the people, and get a feel for the company.”
