Engineering a Sustainable Future: Temi A.’s Story
By Cummins Inc., Global Power Technology Leader
At Cummins, progress is driven by people who bring intention, curiosity and care to their work every day. Temiloluwa (Temi) A., an Environmental Compliance Engineer, is one of those people, using her expertise to help turn complex environmental requirements into meaningful, real-world impact.
For Temi, sustainability is not an abstract concept. It is shaped by lived experience, thoughtful learning and a deep desire to be part of solutions that matter. With three years at Cummins, she works within the Product Compliance and Regulatory Affairs organization, where her role supports compliance across global markets while enabling responsible innovation.
“My background is a blend of engineering, sustainability and real-world industry exposure across multiple sectors,” Temi said. “Each phase of my journey—mining, banking, academia and corporate sustainability—added a new layer to how I think about responsible innovation and ultimately led me to Cummins.”
Temi earned her bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering and began her career in the mining industry, where she saw firsthand how large-scale industrial operations intersect with the environment and surrounding communities. “That experience was formative,” she said. “It moved sustainability from theory into reality for me.”
Her career path later expanded into the financial sector, giving her insight into how economic systems influence development and long-term decision-making. Wanting to deepen her impact, Temi pursued a master’s degree in Environmental Sustainability Science and gained experience working within a global, technology-focused environment centered on integrating sustainability into business decisions.
Today, Temi brings that perspective to her work at Cummins. She collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to interpret and apply environmental regulations, helping ensure clarity, consistency and alignment across engineering efforts. She is also exploring new ways to improve how regulatory work is done, including initiatives that leverage digital tools and continuous improvement to create more efficient, future-ready processes.
“With the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, I see AI not as a future concept, but as a present-day capability that can meaningfully enhance how we work today,” Temi said. “It’s about creating smarter, more sustainable ways of working that allow teams to focus on what matters most.”
Temi describes the Cummins work environment as collaborative, supportive and deeply people-centered. “There is a genuine sense of respect and encouragement here,” she said. “People are welcomed, ideas are valued and learning is part of the culture.”
She sees Cummins’ values reflected daily in both how work is done and how people support one another. “Integrity shows up in the responsibility we carry as engineers,” Temi said. “Quality and ethics are non-negotiable. At the same time, caring is expressed in very real ways—through flexibility, support and a strong sense of community.”
That sense of community extends beyond the workplace. Temi serves on the Community Impact team of the Cummins Black Network, supporting initiatives aligned with education, equity and opportunity, and helping expand access to STEM education and career pathways for students.
“Being part of this work has been incredibly meaningful to me,” she said. “It allows me to contribute not only through my technical role, but also by helping strengthen communities and support the next generation.”
Outside of work, Temi finds inspiration through faith, creativity and connection. She serves as a chorister at her local church and hosts a podcast and YouTube channel, FaithWithTemstar, where she shares stories of resilience, purpose and personal growth. She also enjoys traveling, photography and exploring new food experiences.
“These activities help me stay balanced and inspired,” she said. “They allow me to recharge so I can bring my best self to work.”
Looking ahead, Temi is focused on continued growth at the intersection of sustainability, regulatory compliance and innovation. She is motivated by opportunities to deepen her technical expertise while also building leadership and systems-thinking capabilities.
For those considering a career at Cummins, Temi encourages openness and curiosity. “You don’t have to have everything figured out on day one,” she said. “If you’re willing to learn, ask questions and build relationships, Cummins is a place where you can grow and make a real difference.”
Temi’s story is one of growth, purpose and possibility. By embracing learning, innovation and community, she is making a meaningful impact through her work in sustainability, helping translate responsibility into action and expand what’s possible for the teams and communities she serves. Through her commitment and care, she is helping shape a future defined by environmental stewardship, opportunity and lasting progress.
