Cummins Inc., a global power leader, today announced the release of Future of Fleets, the company’s whitepaper aiming to spur collaboration and market growth for electrified powertrains in commercial vehicles.
Future of Fleets is designed to be a timely point of reference for decision makers within the commercial vehicle sector, drawing on Cummins’ long history of technological innovation and expertise. To identify the four 'keys to electrification', Cummins looked at the technological, infrastructural, economic and regulatory factors that are affecting broader adoption of electrified powertrains across commercial vehicles fleets.
Introducing the whitepaper, Julie Furber, Vice President of Electrified Power at Cummins Inc., comments that "Battery electric vehicles are entering a phase where they are viable for consumers, but what’s less well understood is how businesses can adopt these technologies, bringing them into widespread use in the commercial automotive sector, while maintaining productivity and prosperity. Our latest piece of work examines that and can serve as a resource for those who are either starting out on or continuing their journey to commercial fleets that run on electrified power."
The whitepaper has also been drafted with input from leading companies working on electrification, and features commentary from Addison Lee, Nuvve, Arrival and dg:cities – supporting Cummins’ view that collaboration within and between the public and private sectors will be vital to diversify the country’s traffic towards low emissions vehicles.
Future of Fleets comes shortly after Cummins' announcement of its environmental sustainability strategy, PLANET 2050, which commits it to specific, measurable goals to be achieved by 2030, including a 50% reduction of overall greenhouse gas emissions, as well as a raft of aspirational goals to be achieved by 2050, including full carbon neutrality.
The whitepaper is a valuable resource for policy-makers, fleet purchasers, and OEMs who want to develop a better understanding on how and when electrification can bring value to their sectors. Download the report below.
