Cummins celebrates 10 years of innovation in Germany

On July 18, Cummins Emission Solutions (CES), a business segment of global power technology leader Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI), is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Marktheidenfeld Emission Solutions plant in Marktheidenfeld, Germany, representing a decade of manufacturing innovative dosing technology for Cummins.

Columbus, Ind.

The Emission Solutions site in Germany designs and manufactures selective catalytic reduction (SCR) dosing systems, a critical part of the emissions controls for diesel engines. SCR doser technology is a key enabler for the performance and durability of SCR aftertreatment systems and has been a significant growth opportunity for Cummins over the last decade, with Cummins producing a record number of 954,000 aftertreatment systems in 2021.

Today, this technology represents a key component in Cummins’ path to Destination Zero by reducing emissions and helping to improve air quality. Cummins acquired the SCR dosing business from Hilite International in July 2012 to complement its existing aftertreatment technology, better positioning Cummins to meet the growing needs of customers as an increasing number of regions adopted stricter emissions standards. The acquisition has since led to collaborative, innovative and customized solutions for customers as they meet evolving emission standards, furthering Cummins’ technological capabilities and propelling the Company toward a zero emissions future.

“This anniversary is a testament to the more than 300 highly skilled employees at our Marktheidenfeld site that live Cummins’ brand promise of innovation and dependability every day,” said Robert Cochanski Rodriguez, General Manager for CES’ Europe, Middle East and Africa business. “While we are incredibly proud of what we have accomplished over the last decade, our employees are focused on the future and ensuring Cummins continues to develop emission solution products that power a more prosperous world.”

In addition to producing dependable and advanced products in the region, Cummins’ local community involvement team is actively engaged in Marktheidenfeld. This year, the site offered grants to organizations, supported by Cummins volunteers, to provide food and other necessities for 200 women and children located in refugee shelters in Marktheidenfeld and to support the integration of refugee children in local schools.

Over the last 10 years, the Marktheidenfeld site has produced high quality products, services and support to its customers throughout Europe and the world. The dosing technology developed by Marktheidenfeld engineers are being used in many CES aftertreatment systems around the world. Additionally, CES’ dosing manufacturing footprint has expanded with sites in Juarez, Mexico; Phaltan, India; and Wuxi, China now manufacturing dosers. In total, CES’ doser business has grown from 110,000 systems produced at Marktheidenfeld in 2012 to more than 1.3 million systems produced globally across four sites in 2021.
