Why CARE?

Recent years have underscored the opportunity we have to make significant strides in embracing and fostering diversity. Cummins proudly upholds a legacy of advocating for equity and inclusion, a commitment that is deeply woven into the fabric of our culture and values, tracing back to our active role in the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. Today, we continue this journey with enthusiasm and dedication, guided by our CARE commitment.

Tonya Sisco Executive Director

"I am proud of Cummins' progress to create equitable communities. We have used our entire balance sheet, resources, and volunteers to have an impact across our three areas of focus: criminal justice reform, social justice reform, and economic empowerment. This work shows that change is made possible through decisive and intentional action, and Cummins will continue to be a part of that change."

- Tonya Sisco, Executive Director - CR, Global Equity Programs

Our Approach and 3 Areas of Focus

Born from Cummins leadership introspection and dialogue during the transformational period of 2020, this initiative is our response to the systemic inequities revealed through conversations with our employees and community members. These discussions revealed the deep, personal ways in which systemic issues affect our colleagues and neighbors. With these insights, we understood that it was not solely the actions of individuals but the pervasive nature of these structures that needed to be addressed. Embracing our collective talents, resources, creativity, and determination, we are committed to dismantling these barriers.

Our comprehensive approach includes realizing criminal justice reform, creating economic empowerment by building wealth and income, and driving social justice reform to amplify community voices and priorities, understand the challenges, and address systemic inequities in key areas.

Students from marginalized communities are disproportionately excluded from STEM education. Introducing them to STEM at an earlier age not only helps them foster problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills, but also prepares them for the jobs of now and the future.
