The Cummins Foundation
The Cummins Foundation was created in 1954, 35 years after Cummins was founded. It was one of the earliest corporate foundations and serves as the company's charitable giving organization. It provides grants around the world to nonprofit partners to support communities in which our employees live and work. The Cummins Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization that operates independently of Cummins Inc.
The Cummins Foundation supports employees’ Corporate Responsibility work primarily through Community Development Grants (CDGs), which provide financial support for projects and partners, once engagement with the community partner has been established. After engaging with a community partner, employees can develop grant ideas in collaboration with the Corporate Responsibility leader, and submit grant requests to the Cummins Foundation.
CDG requests allow employees to learn more about their communities, use their business skills to build the capacity of an organization and create a deeper understanding of critical community needs. CDGs also ensure the Cummins Foundation’s resources are used to deliver the greatest impact around the world.
The Cummins Foundation will consider requests to qualifying charitable community partners. In the United States, the Foundation makes grants only to tax-exempt organizations, as defined in Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. Outside of the United States, charitable partners must complete a vetting process led by the Foundation’s partner in international grant making, GlobalGiving.
The Foundation does not entertain unsolicited external requests for funding. The Foundation will only consider requests for charitable organizations that are non-discriminatory in their policies and practices with regards to physical or mental abilities, gender, gender identity and/or expression, race, age, sexual orientation, ethnic origin and/or creed. The Cummins Foundation does not fund medical or disease-related organizations; capital campaigns; individuals’ or business start-ups; product donations; religious activities, in whole or in part, for the purpose of furthering religious doctrine (faith-based organizations must provide service to all clients regardless of denomination); or projects or services that could be considered to benefit the company.
