Big Power | Small Footprint

Hi, forest friends! It’s Watts again, with another serving of RV tips and woods-derived wisdom for your reading pleasure.

Let’s start with a riddle today. What’s really powerful but has a tiny footprint? No, it’s not me. I have the power part down, but I slipped up once by leaving a footprint, and people have called me Bigfoot ever since. Now I hide my tracks not only to stay hidden but also because I’m embarrassed!

No, I’m talking about the QG 7000i DF. At only 33 inches long and 22 inches wide, it takes up less room than my grooming kit while still putting out a whopping 7,000 watts. Don’t worry, that’s 7,000 joules of electricity per second and not several thousand of me – can you imagine the global s’mores famine that would cause? The space savings are a big deal when you have size 23 feet and need most of your storage space for trail snacks.

The real kicker, though, is that these folks at Cummins figured out how to make the QG 7000i DF 100 lbs. lighter than their previous 7000-watt model. That’s 100 lbs. worth of more trail snacks and sourdough starter I can carry. That may interfere with my weight loss goals, but maybe I’ll call up those Cummins engineers to see if they can take 100 lbs. off me, too. The overhead valve engine has excellent air handling, allowing it to produce legendary power despite its compact design.

On top of not sacrificing size or weight for all that power, the single-cylinder 550 cc OHV engine of the QG 7000i DF allows it to be EPA and CARB 2024 SORE certified. That’s important because there’s nothing nature hates more than emissions, and take it from me: you do NOT want to make nature angry.

Another benefit that helps keep Mother Nature happy and me calm is how quiet it is. Between the electric governor, vibration dampening and other noise reduction technologies, it’s as quiet as a mouse. In fact, the other day, while blogging, it was so quiet that a mere chipmunk startled me just as I was getting to the punchline of a post.

No Sacrifices Needed

7,000 watts of power without much size, weight, emissions or noise means you don’t have to sacrifice anything (other than occasionally being startled by a tiny but strangely feisty critter). In city life, everything may have tradeoffs, but that’s not always the case here in nature. Sometimes, the smartest option is just … smarter. That’s why this generator has a permanent place on my must-pack list and is 100% “Squatch-Approved!” Learn more at Cummins.com.
