Shalini shares what International Women's Day means to her

Early in her life, Shalini was encouraged to pursue engineering. During an internship with a mechanical company in India, she realized mechanical engineering was the career for her. Shalini pursued engineering at Wichita State University (U.S.) where she received a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. 

Finding Her Way to Cummins 

Shalini had worked at multiple companies before Cummins, where she has found a supportive work culture she describes as unique; and appreciates how much Cummins has helped her grow and cares about her individual career development. She continually expresses how enthusiastic she is to come to work everyday and never turns down a new challenge at work.

“With an encouraging work environment, women can excel in any field.” 

Empowering Girls in STEM

Shalini appreciates the Employee Resource Groups within Cummins encouraging women in STEM, and has enjoyed her experience as an active member in the company’s women empowerment programs. Shalini says being surrounded by so many influential women at work motivates her to learn something new every day and reinforces her belief that young women interested in STEM need to go for their dreams. Shalini wants to see more young women in STEM fields and to know they should never restrict themselves based on their gender. 

“Empowerment of women is a necessity not only for the company, but also for the development of society.”

International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is a day to reiterate respect and love for women in our lives. Shalini has been inspired by the women in her family and says she has always had good examples of strong courageous women. On International Women’s Day she makes a point to tell all the women in her life how much they inspire her every day. 

“I consider it a day to say thank you to the women around you.”
