Cummins broadens Euro VI engine range with new coach-optimised 10-litre product at Busworld 2025

In an exclusive for Europe, global power leader Cummins (NSYE: CMI) is showcasing a new 10-litre advanced diesel engine at Busworld 2025, signifying an extension of its Euro VI product range. The X10 Euro VI engine will be on display alongside a range of power technologies on Stand 810, Hall 8 from 4-9 October.

The X10 Euro VI engine is fully optimised for inter-urban bus and coach applications and tests are already showing a six to eight per cent improvement in fuel economy, compared to current engines in its class.

A clean-sheet design with sculpted block, the 10-litre engine has been designed in response to rising customer demand for high power-to-weight ratio products at Euro VI. With power ratings from 265-338 kW (355-454 hp) and torque range of 1800-2200 Nm, the X10 is around 150kgs lighter than comparable engines.

Based on Cummins’ new, global 10-litre HELM™ platform, the X10 offers high power density to allow for improved climbing performance and down-speeding ability. It has lower noise and vibrations for enhanced sociability and longer oil change intervals, optimising total cost of ownership. Cummins’ XPI fuel system is also featured, with 1800 bar pressure.

Felipe Rocha, General Manager – On-Highway, Europe at Cummins said:
“The X10 Euro VI has been dually designed to provide our inter-urban bus and coach customers with a power dense, high performance engine as well as a straightforward step toward Euro 7. As OEMs look to update their current vehicle designs, the integration of an X10 Euro VI now makes for a simpler step to X10 Euro 7 in the future. HELM™ platform commonality ensures the move from current to next-generation engine technology is straightforward, with like-for-like integration points and a similar aftertreatment system across both Euro VI and Euro 7.”

The new single overhead camshaft design and lightweight, modular aftertreatment system enables Euro VI compliance without EGR, for simpler system architecture. In addition, wastegate turbocharging ducts and impeller blade profiles are optimised for efficiency, supporting the engine’s high fuel economy and torque response.

The X10 is a new addition to Cummins’ Euro VI line up, which now spans 2.8-litres to 10-litres. X10 Euro VI will be available to vehicle manufacturers from mid-2026.
