Cummins and WRAITH Announce New Armoured Personnel Carrier ‘The Raider’ at DSEI London
Cummins, the global leader in power solutions, and WRAITH Defence, the only independent tracked armoured vehicle manufacturer in Great Britain, are proud to announce their partnership on a new Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), set for production in 2026.
The APC (T) 11 ‘The Raider’ was unveiled September 9, 2025, during the opening of the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) show at London’s ExCeL exhibition centre.
Innovative British Engineering
Conceived by WRAITH founders Richard Matthews, Chief Executive, a British Army veteran and engineer, and Chief Operating Officer Olivia Price, The Raider is designed as a mechanically simple, cost-effective APC. Designed for rapid assembly and ease of maintenance, it offers a significant cost advantage over competitors without compromising on quality or occupant safety. All manufacturing and supply chain operations are based entirely in the UK.
Meeting the Highest Standards
The Raider has been engineered to achieve multiple levels of NATO STANAG 4569 up to Level 6, covering stringent protection standards for occupants of logistic and light armoured vehicles. These standards include resistance to kinetic energy projectiles, artillery fragments, and IED blasts.
Orders and Production
The initial variant of The Raider is destined for special forces and reconnaissance units. Allied governments have already placed pre-orders, prompting WRAITH to plan for high-volume production. The company is considering new manufacturing sites in County Durham, Lincolnshire, South Wales, and Yorkshire to meet demand.
Strong Partnership and Rapid Development
Since initial discussions in early 2024, WRAITH and Cummins have built a strong relationship. “Over the past 18 months we have made tremendous progress. Cummins understands our mission: to produce a practical, affordable, versatile, safe, and highly efficient APC that will play a pivotal role in the defence of Europe and other conflict zones,” said Damian Walsh, Chief Commercial Officer at WRAITH.
Proven Power, Uncompromising Performance
The Raider incorporates Cummins’ renowned B6.7 diesel engine, manufactured in Darlington. With a legacy of over 30 years and millions of units produced, the B-Series engine is recognised for its durability in harsh environments and extreme military conditions. The B6.7 in The Raider delivers 285hp and is compatible with a broad range of military fuels, including NATO F-34 & F-54, JP-8, and JET A-1, ensuring operational readiness across diverse theatres.
Garry Talbot, European Sales Leader at Cummins Defence, commented: “It has been a great example of collaboration where agility, focus and quality control have been at the forefront. We look forward to supporting The Raider through to full production and further exploring future projects with WRAITH, including the planned Infantry Fighting Vehicle, the IFV44.”
